“Thani oru manithanakku unavinaenil intha jagathe azhippom” (we will destroy the world even if one man goes hungry) sang Tamil poet Subramania Bharathi dreaming of a hunger- free world. At a time when our country is striving for food security after attaining the goal of food self-sufficiency, new strategies are required for increased food production. When we dump excess food into trash cans we seldom realize that at that time there must be some person going hungry in some corner of the world. World Food Day was observed in our college on October 16. The speakers highlighted on minimizing food wastage as strategy for food security. Translating our words into deeds, we visited a poor home, ‘Karunalayam’ with a supply of food ingredients.
